Sarath Munasinghe

Major General Sarath Munasinghe, RWP, RSP, USP, was a senior officer in the Sri Lanka Army and later a politician. He served as the Commander of Security Forces Headquarters in Jaffna and, following his retirement, was elected as a Member of Parliament for Kurunegala District and served as Deputy Speaker and Chairman of Committees of the Parliament of Sri Lanka.

Munasinghe joined the Sri Lankan Army as a cadet officer on February 5, 1970, and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the 4th Artillery Regiment on June 1, 1971. He served in various roles, including intelligence and artillery positions, and attended training in India and the United States. Promoted through the ranks, he became a major general in 1998. His senior commands included General Officer Commanding of the 51 and 54 Divisions, and Commander of the 12 and 15 Brigade Groups. He also held key positions in military intelligence and media operations.

After 29 years of service, he transitioned to politics, contributing to national security and parliamentary leadership.
